The seafarer shares his experiences, painful as they are, so that other people can understand what he does and why he continues to do it, as well as show that his experiences have given him insights on living that not everyone else may have. He is well aware that the trappings of 'civilized' life are capable of helping people to forget just how much their lives depend on God; on the sea, where life and death are more or less close followers of one another, the pretenses are stripped away and the true nature of existence comes forward, and to present that view in the hopes of enlightening others, he tells his story.

ReplyDeleteThe reasons varie for the seafarer telling about his life and its hardships. He tells about his hardships to show that life and everything that it deals with isn't going to be perfect. Its also essential to show the effects certain situations have on ones life and meantal state. It also shows that you should be able to cope with your life and the hardships that comes with it, despite the ins and outs of the various situations. Thats why the seafarer explains his life and it's hardships.
ReplyDeleteThe Seafarer wrote that he was at sea for a very, very long time, alone. That being said, there is not much one man can do by himself on after he has completed his daily duties on the ship. He was bored. All he could do was write. At that time what he knew the most was himself if he was alone at sea all the time, therefore he could write all about his life and hardships. His writing would instantly give him pleasure knowing that in the future others could understand his pain and learn from the lessons that he is trying to teach.
ReplyDeleteThe Seafarer tells the reader about his life and his hardships to give a synopsis of what he has been through his many years on the sea. Also, to give examples of certain events in his timeline that have had a major effect on him emotionally and mentally. Additionally, he mentions that though someone may not know their fate and might become fearful, they should keep trust in their higher power(s). And allow themselves to be guided where they may.

ReplyDeleteThe seafarer most likely wrote about his life and hardships because he knows that he could die any day. He probably wanted to pass on a memoir to let anyone who finds it know how his life was, why he decided to live at sea, and how the hardships of life at sea effected him. In reading this memoir, the wanderer hopes that the reader will realize what he has; that when all else is stripped away, one should always keep faith in their religion.
